Teams

New Members

We are always seeking to bring in new players to strengthen our teams, and welcome those who are keen to play competitive cricket at a senior level. Our current league teams include players from around the world – including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and even Yorkshire who now live either in or near Mortimer West End.  If you want a family friendly club that offers a mixture of competitive and friendly cricket for the young through to the not so young, where families are welcome that has excellent facilities then Mortimer West End CC is the club to join.

To emphasise the club’s commitment to youth cricket we are seeking ECB ClubMark registration in 2010 which would give us the equivalent of a Kite Mark for quality and an assurance for parents that our club has reached a high standard in our attitude to young cricketers, their development and well being.

Saturday League Teams

Mortimer West End has two Saturday league teams. The 1st XI won the Berkshire Premier title for the first time in 2008 and was runner up in 2009. The 2nd XI has risen through the leagues and currently sits in the top half of division two, their highest ever league position in 2009.

Sunday Cricket Teams

Our Sunday 1st team plays a mixture of friendly matches against local sides and also competes in (and are past winners of) the Sunday Millennium League. The emphasis on a Sunday is to play cricket in a cordial and relaxed atmosphere where cricketers of all abilities are made to feel welcome. The team has provided a stepping-stone for colts to gain experience of adult cricket and prepare the more able for Saturday league cricket. 2010 will see the advent of a Sunday Development XI primarily aimed as a vehicle for further developing Colts into the adult game.

Colts Teams

We have a strong colts section with three teams competing at under 15, under 13 and under 11 age groups. Our older colts are integrated into adult cricket and we have a new under 9 section for 2010.  Our under 11 team achieved a remarkable record during 2009 by dismissing their opponents for 50 runs. So what was remarkable about that? Well every one of those runs was an “own goal” being accounted for by extras. All 11 opposition batters were dismissed for ducks. We went on to win the game without loss - effectively scoring all the runs and taking all the wickets to fall!

6-a-Side Team

We regularly play in two 6-a-Side Tournaments each year, one at the Oratory School in Woodcote and the other at Crowthorne in the grounds of Wellington College. The Oratory cricket ground provides an excellent venue for cricket and a picnic, having fine views across the Berkshire countryside. In 2008 MWECC were runners up and in 2010 we hope to enter two teams for the first time divided only by age. The veterans’ team hope to show the young rising stars that experience can outweigh youth and fitness. (Take my advice and put all your money on the youngsters. The doddery oldies won’t stand a chance! )
